This palace is a masterpiece of Arab-Norman architecture. The name comes from the Arabic “AlAziz”, meaning “The Splendid”. It’s the perfect place to understand how Sicilian kings enjoyed relaxing among gardens and fountains, in a structure that remains cool even under the city’s hottest sun.

The natural ventilation system is incredible: the air was cooled by the water from the fountain and circulated throughout the palace. Notice the mosaic of the “Devils of the Zisa”: legend has it that it is impossible to count them all correctly. It is located outside the historic center, but is a must-see for those seeking imperial Palermo.
