Largo XVII Agosto
On September 2010, one of the most ancient and typical neighborhood of Catania, “Civita”, is become the stage of a series of artistic actions, among animation and performance.
During an open air show lasting 5 days, 5 internationally renowned street artists – Microbo, Bo130, 2501, San, Guè – carried out site specific works on the facades of the houses of Largo XVII Agosto, making a real “ReWallution”: the first legal street art operation on the walls of Catania organized by the free press “Lapis” to celebrate twenty years of activity, with the patronage of the Department of Culture and Major Events of the Municipality of Catania.ù
In 2023, the Civita Project continued to transform Largo XVII Agosto, led by young local entrepreneurs. By involving artists, Legambiente, and the communication agency Industria01, the initiative revitalized the square with murals, green spaces, and cultural events. These activities turned the square into a vibrant meeting place for residents and visitors, creating a sustainable and participatory project that aligns with the needs of the local community.
